Electronics & Media
All Electronics & Media
Shops for gadgets, devices, and things to read, watch, or listen to. This group covers electronics and computer stores alongside books and other media.
Bookstores
Bookstores or bookshops are retail businesses selling books. They may be either part of a chain or local independent bookstores. Stores can range in size, offering from several hundred to several hundred thousand titles. They may be brick-and-mortar stores, internet-only stores, or a combination of both.
Computer Stores
Computer stores focus on computers, peripherals, software, and related equipment. They are the place to go for a new machine, an upgrade, or accessories.
Electronics Shops
Electronics stores or shops sell consumer electronics such as TVs, radios, and fridges. They may focus on large household appliances such as washing machines, fridges, and ovens. Most electronics shops also sell related peripheral devices, cables, and batteries. Some may sell second-hand electronics or offer repair services as well.
Mobile Phone Shops
Mobile phone shops are stores that primarily sell mobile phones, related accessories and sometimes SIM cards and contracts. Some shops are operated by national telecom provider chains.
Music Stores
Music stores primarily sell recorded music (vinyl/CDs). They can also be called "record shops" or "record stores". They may sell other related things (posters, books about bands or DVDs of live concerts) in small quantities, but they call themselves a music shop.
Musical Instrument Shops
Musical instrument shops sell instruments of all kinds, for example guitars, pianos, and drums. Their customers may be children, hobby musicians, professionals, or any combination of these. They may also sell books with lyrics and scores.
Newsagents
A newsagent, newsstand, or newspaper stand is a shop primarily selling newspapers and magazines. They normally also sell a wide range of convenience items, such as cigarettes, pens, paper goods like copybooks, sweets, chocolates, sandwiches, and milk. Newsagents are very common at transport hubs such as railway stations and airports, for example the chain W.H. Smith in Britain.
Stationery Stores
Shops selling stationery such as paper, notebooks, greeting cards, envelopes, pens, pencils, and other related supplies for home, school, and office use. Office-supply shops may also sell furniture or electronics, but if stationery is their primary focus, they fall into this category.
