Getting Around

  • All Getting Around Ways to travel and get from place to place. This group gathers public transport stops and stations along with other options for moving around.
  • Airports An airport is an aerodrome with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport. Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft and a control tower. An airport has at least one runway or helipad and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars, and terminals.
  • Border Control Points Border controls are checkpoints at an international border between two countries. Passports or other forms of ID might be checked and/or customs inspections may be carried out. At some international border crossings there are several distinct control points.
  • Bus Stations Bus stations where several routes meet, usually with multiple bays, shelters, and timetables. They are hubs for longer journeys and connections between services.
  • Bus Stops A bus stop is a place where passengers can board or alight from a bus. Its position may be marked by a shelter, pole, bus lay-by, or road markings. Some bus stops are unmarked and known only by word of mouth or from information provided on timetables.
  • Ferry Terminals Ferry terminals are where people, vehicles, and sometimes freight board or leave a ferry. They are the gateway to crossings over water, from short hops to longer routes.
  • Helipads Helipads are landing areas or platforms for helicopters and powered lift aircraft. While helicopters and powered lift aircraft are able to operate on a variety of relatively flat surfaces, a fabricated helipad provides a clearly marked hard surface away from obstacles where such aircraft can land safely.
  • Subway Entrances Subway entrances are the points where you enter or leave an underground station. Look for them at street level to reach the metro network below.
  • Taxi Stands Taxi stands (or taxi ranks, cab stands, cab ranks, or hack stands) are queue areas on a street or on private property where taxicabs line up to wait for passengers. They are often found at airports, hotels, railway/bus/subway stations, large shopping centers, or other places where people congregate.
  • Train Stations Train stations are where you catch and leave the railway, with platforms and ticketing. Larger ones also handle freight, but for most people they are the way to travel by train.
  • Tram Stops Tram stops where you can board or get off a tram. They are part of the local public transport network and usually marked by a shelter or platform.
