Food & Drink Shops

  • All Food & Drink Shops Shops that sell food and drink to take home. This group covers everything from supermarkets and bakeries to butchers and off-licences.
  • Bakeries A bakery (also baker's shop or bake shop) is an establishment that produces and sells flour-based food baked in an oven such as bread, cookies, cakes, pastries, and pies. Some retail bakeries are also cafés, serving coffee and tea to customers who wish to consume the baked goods on the premises.
  • Beverage Shops Beverage shops sell drinks, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. This can range from water (still and sparkling) to lemonades, soft drinks, beers, wines, and stronger spirits.
  • Butchers Butcher shops or butcheries primarily sell meat or meat products. They may also offer halal or kosher meat, hot food, baked goods, other farm produce, groceries, or general convenience-store items.
  • Candy Stores Confectionery shops are stores that sell sugary foods such as sweets, candies, cakes, croissants, and similar treats. They are also called baker's confectioneries, sugar confectioneries, candy stores, or lolly shops.
  • Convenience Stores Convenience stores, convenience shops, or corner stores are small retail businesses that stock a range of everyday items such as coffee, groceries, snack foods, confectionery, soft drinks, tobacco products, over-the-counter drugs, toiletries, newspapers, and magazines.
  • Delicatessens Delicatessens sell fine foods such as cured meats and fish, cheeses and spreads, caviar, nut and olive oils, luxury confectionery, or fine wine. In the USA and Canada, most businesses called "deli" are actually convenience shops or restaurants, while a true deli is more likely to be called a fine-foods store or gourmet shop.
  • Farm Shops A farm shop is a shop that sells regional, seasonal, freshly harvested goods. The term can also be used for a roadside produce stand. Similar inner-city farm shops also exist that specialize in selling products direct from local or regional farms.
  • Greengrocers Greengrocers, also called produce markets or fruiterers, are retail traders in fruit and vegetables; that is, in green groceries. Greengrocer is primarily a British and Australian term, and greengrocers' shops were once common in cities, towns and villages.
  • Kiosks Kiosks are small stand-alone pavilions selling products like cigarettes, newspapers, sweets, snacks, and beverages. The shops are normally so small that customers cannot enter them.
  • Liquor Stores Liquor stores are shops that sell alcoholic drinks to takeaway. In some countries they are regulated and licensed by the government while in other countries, the shops are government owned. Liquor stores are also called bottle shops or Off-Licence or Offies.
  • Pastry Shops Pastry shops specialise in pastries and baked sweets such as croissants, tarts, eclairs, and filled cakes. They are usually retail shops focused on take-home treats rather than everyday bread.
  • Seafood Shops Seafood shops are stores selling fish or seafood. This type of shop is known as a fishmonger and will typically sell a range of freshwater and ocean fish, as well as seafood items such as squid, octopus, shrimp, lobster, crab, oysters, and mussels.
  • Supermarkets Supermarkets are self-service shops offering a wide variety of food, beverages and household products, organized into sections and shelves. They are larger and have a wider selection than earlier grocery stores, but are smaller and more limited in the range of merchandise than hypermarkets or big-box markets.
